One loudthing.
A jersey is not a costume. Treated like any other shirt, it becomes the easiest piece in the closet — and the one you reach for most.
- One loud thing per outfit. If the jersey is the loud one, everything else goes quiet.
- Shoes set the register: leather reads sharp, retro basketball reads true, running reads gym.
- Sizing changes the silhouette more than the colorway does.
- Never hang a jersey on a wire hanger or pull it off by the collar.
The one-loud-thing rule
Every look below runs on the same rule: exactly one piece in the outfit is allowed to be loud, and the jersey is it. The moment you add a second loud thing — a graphic cap, patterned trousers, chunky colored sneakers — the whole outfit stops reading as style and starts reading as kit.
Get the rule right and a jersey becomes the least complicated thing you own: you are essentially choosing trousers.

A long-sleeve tee underneath, jersey over the top, sleeves pushed to the forearm. It solves the two problems people actually have with jerseys: the armholes, and the fact that a jersey alone is a summer piece.
Base layer in black, white, or the jersey's second color — never a third.
The Denim Anchor
Straight-leg denim, hem left long, jersey untucked. The denim does the grounding so the jersey can be as bright as it wants.
Indigo or washed black. Skip distressed unless the jersey is plain.
The Tonal Run
Head-to-toe in one family — grey on grey, black on black — with the jersey as the only saturated object in frame. This is the cleanest way to wear a loud colorway.
Sweatpants and a cap in the same neutral. That is the whole trick.
The Half-Tuck
Front hem tucked, back left out. It shortens the silhouette and gives the waistband a reason to exist — useful on longer bodies and on jerseys sized deliberately loose.
A proper waistband: denim, tailored trouser, or a clean drawstring.
The Tracksuit Handshake
Jersey over a track jacket, or over taped track pants. The sportswear vocabulary already matches, so nothing here has to be explained.
Keep it to one tape stripe. Two starts to look like a costume.
Shoes decide the register
The same jersey reads three different ways depending on what is on your feet. Low-profile leather sneakers push it toward smart; a retro basketball silhouette keeps it in its own lane; anything running-shaped pulls the whole thing toward the gym. None of those is wrong, but they are not the same outfit.

Season by season
A jersey is a sleeveless knit, which makes it a summer piece by default and a layering piece everywhere else. The looks above do not change with the weather — what changes is what goes underneath.

A graphic cap and a patterned trouser on the same body as a loud colorway is the fastest way to make an outfit read as a uniform rather than as a choice. Pick the one piece that is allowed to shout, and let everything else be the quiet supporting cast.
Sizing changes the look more than the color does
A jersey one size up over a long-sleeve base is a completely different garment from the same jersey worn fitted. If a look above is not landing, change the size before you change the team — it is the cheaper variable and it moves the silhouette more.

How do I stop the print from cracking?
